In a global context marked by tensions, food security is a strategic priority for Egypt, the world's largest wheat importer. To address this dependency and strengthen its resilience, AFD is supporting the Egyptian authorities in the construction of wheat silos across the country, with a total additional capacity of 375,000 tons. This project, funded by the European Union under the "Food and Resilience Facility," aims to secure wheat availability for producing subsidized bread, which serves around 70% of the population.

Through this project, AFD contributes to modernizing the grain logistics chain, reducing post-harvest losses, and improving storage conditions according to international standards—this transition is deemed critical in a context of global challenges in supply chain and growing impact of climate change.
